MOCKUMENTARY
Mockumentary comes from mock documentary, a cinematic or television genre that is made in the style of a documentary but with fictional elements, a fake documentary. They are often films with a satirical or ironic tone. Films that tell true stories through characters in the style of cinema verite. Mockumentary is a style that often demonstrates how much more surprising reality can be than fiction. Mockumentary was first seen in 1957 on the BBC’s program People Like Us, in a seemingly serious program about Italy which featured farmers collecting spaghetti which was growing from trees. Most recently the extremely successful Borat:Cultural Learnings for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is an example of a feature length mockumentary |
